Disorder in the Court - Movie Review |
|
Disorder in the Court is the 15th of Columbia Pictures' 190 short subjects starring the comedy team of the Three Stooges (Moe, Larry, and Curly). Those who aren't familiar with their early work will find some interesting routines here which are close to how their early vaudeville performance may have been like on stage. The Three Stooges were an American vaudeville and comedy act in the early to mid 20th century. They are best known for their numerous film shorts featuring the three-man line-up consisting of Moe, Larry, & Curly (sometimes spelled "Curley"). When Curly died in the mid 1940's, he was replaced with his brother Shemp. When Shemp himself died, two new replacement members of the troupe appeared in later shorts at different times from each other. The Stooges hallmark was extremely physical slapstick comedy, mixed in with one-liners and other characters in some kind of outrageous plot.

Disorder in the Court Trivia - Did You Know?Legend has it that the eye poke started when Shemp accused Larry of cheating in a card game, and Shemp poked him in the eyes. Moe, watching all this, laughed so hard he fell off his chair and through his patio glass door. Larry's eyes were reportedly tearing for days after the incident. The contact point of the "eye poke" was actually the brow bone, not the eyes. The illusion looked real on television. In the 1950s, after numerous complaints by parents of children imitating the Stooges' eyepoke, they went on TV to demonstrate how exactly they did it safely.
