Born in defiance on the day the Pope comes to Dublin. Punk band The Dead Patriots rise to, big band in a small town, status only to self-destruct as society takes its revenge and love gets dangerous. Ten years on, the protagonists meet to learn the full truth of their undoing. Set against the background of a conservative and religious society, this an energetic and convincing drama that tells its story through the shifting dynamics of its central characters relationships and most importantly the music of an era. Dublin 1979, While the whole neighbourhood embarks to the Pope's mass, punkette Reena ducks out with the aid of her Granmother - a rebel from an older generation. In the deserted streets of her suburb, she meets up with Jessop and by the time her parents return, renewed from the pope, Reena and Jessop have sealed their alliance in Jessop's bed.

The Last Bus Home Trivia - Did You Know? One of the most complex aspect of the film was the financing: six sources in four differend countries and currencies. The film represents a departure for an Irish independent company in being the first collaboration with and Australian financier, Beyond, for whom it was also a departure: a first-time involvement in a non-Australian feature film. For both parties it provided a challenge not least because of the difficulties of having a phone conversation that didn't impinge on either of the parties sleep patterns. The Last Bus Home won Best Film at the British and Irish Film Festival in Cherbourg. Related FilmsChoppers | Fluent Dysphasia | Starfish | Saturday | Innocence | |
