Phantom Ship - Movie Review |
|
A famous shocker based on the true story of the Marie Celeste, a ship found off the coast of Africa in 1872 with her sails set, but not a soul on board. During a horrific storm at sea, the crew realizes that there is a murderer among them who is killing them off one by one. Starring the great Bela Lugosi (best known for his performances as Dracula) as the religious seafarer Anton Lorenzen. The undisputed king of cult horror cinema, Bela Lugosi (Plan 9 from Outer Space) stars in The Phantom Ship, an amusing horror mystery based on a true story. In the late 19th century, the sailing ship The Marie Celeste was discovered with no crew and no evidence of a crew abandonment. The mystery perplexed nautical experts for years, and the story was fictionalized into this fun oversea horror show. Lugosi is a one armed drunken sailor who witless joins the crew of a purportedly jinxed ship, The Marie Celeste. But while Lugosi is drinking on board the creaking vessel, crew members begin to be mysteriously murdered! Plenty of unintentional laughs and intentional frights ensue as captain and crew scramble to save their lives aboard The Phantom Ship!
